Stone resembles the natural element and shape, which conveys opposite notions such as vibrancy and calm, presence or absence of meaning depending on the cultural context. In China it is omnipresent through traditional culture, naturally eroded stones are collected, steles are used to reproduce and record, lions guarding doors are made of stone, to name a few. It also is a symbol in philosophy, for instance one analogy from the Dao de Jing states one should seek to resemble an uncarved stone.
